Color My World Tangerine Tango

Does your interior need a little energy, a little verve?  Why not give it a pop of color with Tangerine Tango.  Pantone has name Tangerine Tango the color of 2012.  Bold yet sophisticated, vintage yet edgy, this versatile color is currently being used in fashion, cosmetics, and home decor.

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

As shown in the three images below, Tangering Tango can be used as a single pop of color to brighten a soft, neutral palatte.

When paired with bright whites as in the images below Tangerine Tango is fun and playful.  Incorporate this color in pillows and accessories or painted on the walls or furniture.

Romantic Umbrella Decor

Soft filtered light beneath the canopy of suspended umbrellas creates a sense of intimacy and romance.  They appear delicate and perhaps temporary as if they have just blown in from somewhere and are resting a while before going out again. Do they collect our secrets as conversations filter upwards?

We may never know.  But the aura of grace and femininity in these beauties speaks for itself.

DIY Parasol Lighting

Here are a couple of umbrella lighting projects you can use to soften the lighting in your home and create a chic atmosphere.  From HGTV  this first tutorial uses a bamboo parasol on your ceiling fixture.

This next project turns cocktail umbrellas into a sophisticated hanging pendant lamp.  The tutorial is found here from Craft Tutorials.

Tumbleweed Tiny House Plans

Recently I wrote a post entitled Tiny Shabby Cottage .  I thought it was one of the cutest little homes I’d ever seen and while the focus of the article was about the interior decoration in the vintage chic design style, I couldn’t help but wonder how she made the house itself.

Well, today, by coincidence I found the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company.  Their designs range from 65 sq ft to 837 sq ft and are styled just like the shabby cottage.   Jay Shafer founded the company on the idea that large houses can be wasteful so he set out to design (and live in) a tiny home that provides enough useful space and storage to live a simple, yet happy lifestyle.

So, if you were wondering just how to go about building such a cottage for yourself, check out Jay’s video, then head over to his web site.  He sells the plans on their own or will build it for you.

Would you build a house like this?

Photographing the Vintage Chic Home

Light, color, form, details. These are all important elements of photography. They’re also important elements of the vintage chic design style. Photographer Sandra Lane has an excellent eye for these things and captures the essence of the vintage chic home in her photographs.
